As part of our commitment to assist women in the early stages of their Australian Football media careers, Women’s Australian Rules Football Radio is pleased to announce that we’ll be offering a one-off Broadcast Equipment Grant to encourage women to start their own commentary team/group/company.

One successful applicant will receive $1,000 (AUD) for the express purpose of purchasing Broadcast Equipment (Audio Mixers, Headsets, etc…) that will enable them to start their own independent Australian Football commentary team/group/company, to either broadcast online or via radio, or add commentary to vision (video stream, DVDs, community TV, etc…).

The grant is not restricted to what Australian Football competition(s) the applicants may wish to commentate, nor sport (should there be a wish to further develop their sports broadcasting skills), although girls/women’s Australian Football competitions are looked upon more favourably.

Applicants who outline plans to give opportunities to those currently under-represented in commentary roles – such as, but not limited to, women, transgender and non-binary persons, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, new Australians – will be also be looked upon favourably.

The grant is not restricted by location. Your proposed Australian football commentary team/group can be located anywhere in the world (as there are a number of competitions located outside of Australia)!

Applications can be made by an individual, or group of individuals, but not currently operating entities (such as community radio stations), as the intended purpose is to create something new, from scratch.

Applicants must address the following to be considered for the Broadcast Equipment Grant.
  1. What competition(s) does the applicant propose to cover?
  2. How does the applicant propose to cover this competition (online audio, video stream, etc)?
  3. What type of broadcast equipment is the applicant looking to purchase with this grant?
  4. Who does the applicant propose to broadcast with (i.e. fellow commentators)?
  5. Any other information the applicant would like to mention to highlight the professional approach they’ll take to making these broadcasts.

Applications are to be emailed to WARF Radio founder Peter Holden, with application deadline now extended until 12pm Thursday 31st December 2020.

The successful applicant will be announced afterwards via the WARF Radio social media accounts.
